Information Regarding Different Types of Daratak

Daratak

Daratak PVAc latex is a family of aqueous emulsion polymers and copolymers based primarily on vinyl acetate monomer.  These products were designed for specialty adhesive applications.  OSP offers both polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) and hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) stabilized products.  Daratak PVAc latex can be used as the primary backbone polymer or to help impart a specific property to your formula.

Daratak PVAc latex polymers are easy to compound.  We offer products that have excellent water resistance and bond to many different substrates

17-200

DARATAK® 17-200

Adhesive Emulsion
Daratak 17-200 is a low-medium viscosity, general purpose polyvinyl acetate homopolymer emulsion, noted for its superior compounding and machining stability.
Daratak 17-200 is hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) stabilized which imparts better shelf life with less settling. This emulsion exhibits particularly good receptivity to solvents, acids, and plasicizers.
Daratak 17-200 finds applications in a wide range of adhesive compounds for wood gluing and paper packaging, textile sizing, and finishing. It has excellent adhesion and fiber tear on wood substrates.

56L

DARATAK® 56L

Adhesive Emulsion
Daratak 56L is a very high molecular weight polymer with a low emulsion viscosity used in applications that require higher heat resistance (up to 280° F depending on coating thickness and additives) than found in typical polyvinyl acetate polymers. It is used in heat resistance adhesives and wood glues as well as some thermal forming applications. Its films exhibit a relatively high degree of solvent resistance and a high blocking point.
Daratak 56L is stabilized with hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) which imparts better shelf life with less settling. It is easily compounded with standard adhesive ingredients.
In adhesive formulations, Daratak 56L may be employed to obtain very good adhesive and tensile strengths, while minimizing themoplasticity and cold flow. These properties are particularly important in adhesives which may be subjected to a wide range of temperatures. Daratak 56L exhibits good bite in wood substrates and has found wide application in wood glues both by itself and in compounded formulations. It is fast drying and has quick break. As a fast film former, it is used where quick fiber tear is desired.

61LT

DARATAK® 61LT

Adhesive Emulsion
Daratak 61LT is a medium to high viscosity vinyl acetate homopolymer that is borax tolerant. It will accept high levels of fillers and fire retardant additives. Daratak 61LT is compatible with starches and dextrins as well as reactive pigments (Zn, Mg, etc.). It is thixotropic, it builds viscosity but thins when sheared.
Daratak 61LT is stabilized with hydroxyethyl cellulose, which imparts better water resistance than typical vinyl acetate polymers.
Daratak 61LT is used in heat sealing, paper and foil adhesives and in fire retardant mastics. The thixotropic characteristic of this vinyl acetate homopolymer makes it very useful in tub and tile, grout, stucco, and other high viscosity applications. It lends well to trowling.

90L

DARATAK® 90L

Adhesive Emulsion
Daratak 90L is an acrylic-containing, high viscosity, pressure sensitive terpolymer emulsion which dries to a permanently tacky film. It is specifically designed for adhering to a wide range of non-porous substrates.
Daratak 90L may be used alone or blended with elastomeric polymer emulsions used in pressure sensitive applications. It can be modified with tackifying resins or other polymers to give a wide range of pressure sensitive properties. Daratak 90L has cold temperature resistance.

Daratak A is an internally plasticized vinyl acetate copolymer. Films of Daratak A have flexibility equivalent to that of vinyl acetate homopolymers plasticized with 10% dibutyl phthalate. Please note that Daratak A does NOT contain dibutyl phthalate.
Daratak A is tough, flexible, and water resistant. It provides excellent machinability, speed of grab and set. It adheres well to non-porous surfaces. It is compatible with a wide range of adhesives-compounding ingredients.
Because of its excellent compounding stability, Daratak A can be used as a base for adhesives for non-porous substrates. Daratak A is harder and less flexible than Daratak B.

B

DARATAK® B

Adhesive Emulsion
Daratak B is an internally plasticized vinyl acetate copolymer. Films of Daratak B have flexibility equivalent to that of vinyl acetate homopolymers plasticized with 20% dibutyl phthalate. Please note that Daratak B does NOT contain dibutyl phthalate.
Daratak B is tough, flexible, and water resistant. It provides excellent machinability, speed of grab and set. It adheres well to non-porous surfaces. Daratak B is designed for use on difficult-to-adhere-to substrates such as vinyl sheeting, aluminum foil and PVdC coatings. It can be compounded into a heat sealing adhesive. It is compatible with a wide range of adhesives-compounding ingredients. Daratak B is compatible with SBR combining the best attributes of both.
Because of its excellent compounding stability, Daratak B can be used as a base for adhesives for non-porous substrates.
Daratak B is less hard and more flexible than Daratak A.
