Serfene PVdC latex is a family of aqueous emulsions of vinylidene chloride barrier co-polymers based on technology developed by multiple companies over the years. Commercial Serfene PVdC latex products are manufactured and sold by Owensboro Specialty Polymers, Inc.

Serfene PVdC latex can be coated over paper and film substrates. Coatings of Serfene PVdC latex dry to form clear, glossy, abrasion resistant polymer films which are excellent barriers to the transmission of water vapor and oxygen.  Serfene PVdC latex can also be used as a barrier primer and laminating adhesive.  Moreover, these polyvinylidene chloride coatings are odorless and tasteless and they are impervious to most oils and greases. Serfene PVdC latex emulsions have also found application in industrial coatings and other industries where excellent barrier is required.

195

SERFENE® 195

Serfene 195 is a high barrier, polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) latex. Materials coated with Serfene 195 have excellent resistance to water vapor, gases, and grease. This latex can also be used as a top coat over other high barrier PVDC’s when a low temperature heat seal is desired. The coating exhibits excellent block resistance and slip properties immediately after the coating operation. Serfene 195 is recommended when a PVDC is to be used in-line and wound against another coating which may block, for example, certain inks. It is also recommended for thermoforming applications. On plastic films, a primer is necessary for adequate adhesion.

SERFENE® 400

Serfene 400 is a high barrier, general purpose, polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) latex with good heat sealability. Materials coated with Serfene 400 have excellent resistance to water vapor, gases, and grease. This latex is recommended for coating paper and primed plastic films. It is also recommended for thermoforming applications. On plastic films, a primer is necessary for adequate adhesion.
This high molecular weight PVDC polymer has excellent extensibility even after full crystallization. This property is unique for a high barrier PVDC.

SERFENE® 546L

Serfene 546L is a PVDC emulsion designed for use as a primerless barrier laminating adhesive. Serfene 546L consistently demonstrates high oxygen barrier and adhesive properties with a wide variety of polymeric films. It is also used as a primer to promote adhesion and provide oxygen barrier in extrusion coated and laminated structures. Serfene 546L is well suited for PET, OPP, MDPE and LDPE.

Serfene 777 is a polyvinylidene chloride copolymer emulsion designed for use in the production of specialty paints and protective coatings.
Serfene 777 is especially useful in fire retardant and intumescent fire retardant finishes, and interior/exterior trim paints and metal primers.

SERFENE® 2010

Serfene 2010 is a polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) emulsion which exhibits excellent adhesion and barrier properties. It was designed for use as a barrier-type adhesive or primer, and will bond plastic films to paper or to another film. It was specifically designed for adhesion to polyolefins. Serfene 2010 is well suited for OPP, MDPE and LDPE.

SERFENE® 2026

Serfene 2026 is a self-adhering polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) copolymer emulsion which adheres to paper substrates and plastic films without the need for an additional primer. Serfene 2026 was specifically designed as a high barrier/high bond extrusion primer for nylon and a high barrier adhesive for BOPP/BOPP film, dry bond laminations.
Serfene 2026 can decrease oxygen permeation to less than 0.6 cc O2/100 in2/24 hours on oxygen permeable substrates such as polyolefins.

SERFENE® 2060

Serfene 2060 is a polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) copolymer emulsion that is self-adhering to a variety of substrates including acrylics, treated polypropylene, treated polyethylene, polyamides, treated polyester, and paper as well as PVDC coated substrates. Serfene 2060 can decrease oxygen permeation down to less than 1 cc O2/100 in2/24 hrs on oxygen permeable substrates such as polyolefins. Serfene 2060 can be formulated to exhibit jaw release properties. When used as a jaw release coating, the barrier properties may be affected by the amount of formulation ingredients.

SERFENE® DL-96

Serfene DL-96 additive is an anionic carnauba wax emulsion designed as a formulating aid for modification of aqueous polymers. Serfene DL-96 additive can be used to formulate polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) latexes, such as the OSP Serfene product line.
